Creative Arts
In the Creative Arts Department at The British School of Egypt, we aim to develop pupils’ sense of self, their interpersonal skills and intra-personal awareness, alongside their ability to apply knowledge, their understanding and practical ability within Music, Drama & Performing Arts and Art & Design.
MUSIC
In Music, we aim to deliver high quality experiences that engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. Music is a universal language that embodies one of the ultimate avenues of creativity and as pupils progress they should critically engage with music allowing them to compose and listen with discrimination to the best of the musical canon.
Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human expression and in delivering high quality learning experiences, we aim to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. Pupils are also taught how art and design both reflects and shapes a nation’s history and contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of a nation.
We offer a broad and balanced Drama curriculum that aims to ensure that all pupils perform, listen to, watch, review and critically evaluate dramatic pieces across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including works of great theatre practitioners and actors. With a focus on performance, pupils learn to act and use their voices and bodies, to create and devise on their own and with others and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of excellence.
We have successfully competed in local contests and have had students represent the school on the national and international stage and screen. We boast a blossoming peripatetic program and hope to expand the department as the school grows, nurturing the wealth of talent we are lucky and proud to have at The BSE.
The Creative Arts Team of qualified and committed teachers draw on their experience in the classroom and in the professional arena to present spectacular productions both in our brand new theatre and utilizing new and innovative spaces to engage our audiences. Since the very first production, only a few weeks after the inauguration of the school, to our last stage epic, our motivated young performers have wowed parents and guests with phenomenal experiences of theatrical prowess. Our annual art exhibition has become a date to look forward to and this expansion looks set to continue onwards and upwards.
